Dear Colleagues & Friends,

Alumni for Life is an informal group created for individuals who share a common thread – we have all worked in or currently still working in AIA or AIG group. We have all travelled in the insurance road and as we continue in our journey, life takes on a broader dimension and perspective.

The purpose of the informal group is to provide a platform for communication and network. It can also be a reference station for precious memories of times together. Colleagues who have contributed in sharing their experiences, thoughts, insights and wisdom will undoubtedly provide some elements of encouragement, inspiration and motivation to colleagues and friends.

For a start, the blog contains the introduction and a post on “A Tribute to the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founder of modern Singapore.

TIME WAITS FOR NO MAN!

The SEA games are a timely reminder that we are in the race against time!

In our individual race of life, we are reminded that "time waits for no man."  When we are younger, we perceive that time will wait for us.  In our more senior years, we wished that time could be rolled back to do what we have left undone or to indulge in experiences that we have missed.

A cliche we often hear but not taken seriously.  For those who are in the pioneer generation or close to it will appreciate its significance on hindsight.  Time seems to thwart most of the dreams, good intentions and aspirations.

Like the significance of the dash between two dates (birthday and expiry day), "time" is between "talents and treasures" referred by some as the 3 Ts in life.  What you do with your talents (endowed or developed) over time will determine your treasures (fame and fortune).  In the pursuit of our treasures we sometimes forget what really matters in life.  Where your treasure is, there your heart is also!  It is usually towards the latter part of life that such thoughts and feelings arise as our allotted time begins to lapse.

Perhaps if we can find a reliable compass early in life to chart our course, we can have a positive and reassuring journey ahead.  It will be too late if we echo the same refrain as King Solomon of old, "vanity of vanities, all is vanity!"

In our everyday busy routine, pause to consider what treasures are we accumulating?  In times of loneliness, frustration and disappointments, what and who can we depend on that will provide relief, comfort, satisfaction and hope?

May I suggest that the key to lasting value and happiness is in genuine relationships.  In relationships, there are many dimensions and facets that can be built on - with family, friends and God.

Indeed time waits for no man!  Just be reminded to number your days in the light of what is precious and significant in life.  Continue to establish meaningful relationships that will weather through your times of difficulties and share in your moments of jubilation.

Continue to be connected with your colleagues as an addition to your friendship treasure trove!

Your Colleague from old times,

Douglas
